The drive behind the design of Elliot's, a restaurant and bar nestled in London's Borough Market, is to fully embrace the lively surroundings of the market. The restaurant’s entire façade consists of folding doors, creating an open space that encourages passers-by to stop. Inside, the foyer is clad in hard wearing stone, echoing the colour and finish of the cobble stone alleys around the restaurant. Together they foster a seamless connection between interior and street, overlapping one space with the other.
In the centre of the restaurant, a wedge-shaped bar serves as a subtle room divider, separating quieter seating at the back from the bustling bar area. Crafted from oak and fluted brushed metal, it is a nod to the ornate bars found in London's many classic pubs. The colour scheme, featuring vibrant greens and oranges in both fabrics and leathers, combined with new oak joinery, injects a youthful vibrancy and new warmth into the well-worn space, creating a complimenting contrast to the rugged brick walls and weathered timber joists.
As you progress through the space, the ambiance gently shifts from the lively bar area flooded in an orange glow from the massive awning outside, with tan leather stools, plush green velvet, stainless steel bar and vibrant green accents, to a comfortable dining space at the back. In the dining area the walls are painted in an off-black hue, and a mesh fabric ceiling gently diffuses light above the tables, creating a serene and intimate atmosphere. By night, the restaurant and bar are softly illuminated by sculpted resin lamps, reflecting their amber glow in the dark stone and stainless steel finishes.
